UGANDA: A TIME TO LISTEN AND LOVE
The Lord loves us beyond our understanding. It goes beyond all human reasons, measures or limitations.
We are working in slum areas and among the very poor, yet this is were I have found the heart and living presence of God beyond all I could imagine. He desires to come very close to the poor and desperate.
One day I was thinking and praying about what scriptures to preach and teach on my trip to Uganda.
Suddenly I felt the love and compassion of God shine in my heart. It was beautiful and overwhelming.
The presence and reality of Jesus was with me and speaking from withing my heart. He said, "Do not spend all your time behind the pulpit. I do not want a barrier between me and the people. I need to go down and spend time sitting with the people. I need to be very close, look them in the eye and tell them that I love them. I want to listen to them and respond in love to them. Take me close to them and let me love them."
We did that as often as possible on this mission trip.
We gave a day, just to sit and listen to each person who wished to come and share with us. No one thought many people would come. We were wrong.
They came like the flood waters from the day before rains. They pressed in to each get a turn in the seat to share their heart. They wanted prayer, many came to give their lives to Jesus Christ, get a bible and basic instruction in reading their bible and more.
We asked each person if they were born again. When they said no, I expect some resistance to what we were about to say next. To my surprise each one that said no came ready to believe the Gospel. We did not have to convince anyone to be willing to believe upon Jesus Christ. They each sat down and said I am hear to be born again. We led them in understanding and prayer, and further counseled them to come to church for more teaching.
Every person that came received a bible. I was so surprised we did not run out of bibles.
All left joyfully having been heard, prayed over and with a new bible in hand.
Praise the Lord!
For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
